Fort Hood Soldier Wants to Give Back

1/28/10

A Fort Hood Soldier injured during combat wants to pursue a career in medicine. Thomas Grycza toured Neuro Texas Institute at St.David’s Medical Center this afternoon. Grycza was injured during his tour in Iraq and is now a member of the Warrior Transit Group. The program is a combination of troops who are rehabilitating from injuries received during combat. Grycza became interested in medicine after his injuries and watching several of his comrades go through rehabilitation. He said, “Because there were some injuries sustained while I was deployed to Iraq, and I believe giving back what you’ve been given, I believe that’s a good thing.” The St. David’s staff gave Grycza an in-depth look at neurological injuries often sustained during combat. Grycza said hoped his tour of the facility would give him a better understanding of the brain.
